Dutch Chamber of Commerce

The First business visits of the excursion were scheduled for today. Our group first visited the Randstad office in Stockholm and than we headed for the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Rijns and Mrs. Goes hosted this meeting and have informed us this morning about all the ins and outs of the contacts and goals of the Chamber in Sweden. We had a list of questions for them since we have been working on an assignment for the coming weeks. The major item we have taken along is that the Chamber is working with volunteers only, all these volunteers have their engagement in Dutch/Swedish business relations. In communication terms this means we have to look for easy to access, aiming at efficiency in networking. The content should be about sharing relevant information for small and large companies, companies new in Sweden and already for numbers of years in Sweden. After this meeting we feel ready to plan in detail an advise for improving communication by using the digital highway in all its aspects.

Visit at the Government of Sweden

Communication students of the NHL University visited the Government and Communications Secretariat for the Swedish EU Presidency in Stockholm. Several employees of this secretariat gave a presentation about different communication and marketing topics.

The most interesting subject was the official identity of the Presidency. Tracy Mitchell Björkman, project manager, explained the logo and some communication activities.
From 1 July till 31 December 2009 Sweden is the president of the EU. The students also got informed about the temporary website. The goal was to create the best website for an EU Presidency. Because of the social networks on the website, like Facebook and Linkedin, they achieved this goal.

The next president of the EU will be Spain. The students are curious how they will handle the Presidency. For more information about Sweden and the EU, have a look at www.se2009.eu.

Dutch Embassy

Today NHL students have visited the Dutch Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. The embassy is located on the property of the first Dutchman that arrived in Stockholm, Luis de Geer. Luis de Geer moved from Amsterdam to Stockholm during the Golden Age. In 1963 the Dutch Embassy took over the building.
We were welcomed by Mrs. Eva Boom and Mrs. Stijn Janssen in very large meeting room ‘Akzo Nobel’ on the top floor of the embassy.

During the visit, students learned about the different tasks of the Dutch Embassy. Several tasks are: visiting Dutch prisoners, promote the Netherlands and help the Dutch ministries.
Further more they talked about the differences between the Netherlands and Sweden and the results of the EU presidency for Sweden. The atmosphere was very open and many questions have been put forward. One of our suggestions is that Sweden should put forward into Europe their philosophy: ‘nature is free to all inhabitants’. We think that this will stimulate people to treat the nature more respectful and increase the norms and values within nations on this point.
