Students at work

On these pages we will keep you informed about the communication projects the student will work on from December 7th onwards, so keep yourself posted to this item.

Currently, all students in their third year of the Communication study at NHL are working on the project International Communication. The project allows students to do assignments for real companies in Sweden.
The students are divided into five main groups that are doing assignments for different companies in Sweden. Most of these companies already have worldwide consumer awareness, so although innovative, fresh ideas are always welcome, the students will have to make their concepts fit in the existing communication strategies on some level.

One of the groups is working on a simulated launch case for Husqvarna. Husqvarna is the global leader in outdoor power products for forestry, park maintenance and lawn and garden care, as well as cutting equipment and diamond tools for the construction and stone industries.
The assignment from this company is to present a launch plan and creative ideas for the launch of a new handheld battery trimmer that Husqvarna is developing.
It’s a challenge to make this product stand out in the worldwide market of gardening tools, and students will have to use a lot of creativity.

Another group is challenged to come up with a free publicity campaign for Ikea. With 301 stores in 37 countries, one could imagine communication being key business for Ikea. The goal of this assignment is to make all customers and potential customers talking happily about the content of the concept “The never ending list, small improvements towards a sustainable Ikea.” With no budget to work with, this task could proof to be a real pickle.

The third group is developing creative ideas for ABSOLUT. ABSOLUT VODKA is one of the world’s best selling premium spirits brands. Currently, the company is working on an advertising campaign including a film in collaboration with Spike Jonze, an American director and producer, whose work includes music videos, commercials, film and television. ABSOLUT invites students to share their ideas around the introduction of this film. A little secret still, so no more details to share for now.

The Dutch Chamber of Commerce is a platform for business networking between Sweden and The Netherlands. Students working on this assignment have to come up with ways to profile the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in digital media. For this assignment, they will have to look closely at how similar companies profile themselves.

Tarkett Netherlands is part of Tarkett Western Europe, world's largest flooring manufacturer. Sustainability is one of the key drivers of Tarkett's daily business. The assignment for the group of students that is working for this company is to conceptualize ways to convince governmental organisations to choose Tarkett. People involved in the decision process are architects that are working for the government, school directors, councillors, etcetera.

This week lectures and workshops are scheduled about the EU and about Swedish culture and trade.
Next week, the project will continue in Sweden, where the students will visit the companies they are working for.

While making the program for the 2009/2010 project, students were asked to gather details about the EU, students and Sweden chairing the EU. They have been writing essays about their findings, which we like to share with all of you. These articles were written between June and September 2009.
