Dredging simulator
Since 1995 the MSTC has been extended with a dredging simulator. On this simulator current and prospective crew of dredging ships can be educated and trained in sailing and manoeuvring while dredging. Particularly important is the teamwork between skipper and "pipe man" (who is controlling the dredging installation).
The existing full-mission simulator bridge is programmed to act as dredging vessel and extended with screens for skipper en pipe man. So the whole dredging process can be simulated en followed, especially the position of de suction pipes. While loading and unloading the sea floor profile is monitored by a special system.
The outside view of the simulator shows the dredging vessel on both sides the movable cranes, wires, suction pipes and so-called swell compensators.
At the end of the training the instructor can recall the dredging process to evaluate the simulator training.
