DP Operator Qualifications
- In order to qualify as DP operator a qualification programme comprising six elements has to be completed:
- Approved induction training 4-5 days
- Sea familiarisation 30 days
- Approved simulator training 4-5 days
- Sea Service 6 months
- Assessment and approval by ship’s master
- Certification
Recently the Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz has further upgraded and grouped its relevant DP activities and facilities into THE DUTCH DP CENTRE.
All DP induction and simulator courses can now be delivered on class 1, 2, and 3 equipment. Soon to be added will be the courses for DP seatime as well as DP power management, especially for engineers on DP vessels.
The facilities will include training equipment from Kongsberg/Simrad Cegelec/Alstom/Converteam and Praxis Automation.
DP Training Systems
A multitude of DP training systems is now available from various suppliers: Kongsberg/Simrad, Cegelec/Alstom/Converteam and Praxis Automation. These are both desktop stations, standalone consoles and consoles incorporated into a full mission ship bridge simulator. A great variety of fairways, open-sea and ports can be chosen from. The influences of waves, weather and current on the ships are realistically simulated.

Certification
The Dutch DP Centre is fully certified by the Nautical Institute according to provisions from DNV, IMCA, IMO, VBKO, etc.
